Online auction for WSD [UPDATED!]

UPDATE: The auction will be extended another week until April 27th.

Read this post to participate in the online silent auction to benefit the Washington School for the Deaf!

Thanks for stopping by! We have lots of great art on auction until the 20th of April. All proceeds benefit the Washington School for the Deaf to put graphic novels in their library! If you’re wondering why the Washington School for the Deaf, and why graphic novels, the great Gina Gagliano over at First Second gave a great summary:

“Plain text tends to be hard for deaf children, as they don’t have the association hearing people do with the spoken word. Things like graphic novels (with value-added pictures included!) are a great way to get them excited about reading. Of course, state of public education in this country today, no one can afford all the classroom materials they’d like.”

Here is how it’s going to work:

Each piece has a corresponding number to it. To bid on a piece, simply leave a comment with the number of the piece you want to bid on and the amount you would like to bid. At the end of the auction, I will be contacting the people with the highest bid on each piece, sending them an invoice via Paypal for the amount they bid within 48 hours. And because I’ve had some problems with this the last time I did this: If someone else has bid on a piece that you want – don’t feel bad placing a higher bid. That’s how this whole auction thing works.

Now, there’s no legal obligation or what not, but I’m hoping that the people who bid are doing so for the art and to help the school, so it’s all based on an honor system. If for some reason the person with the highest bid is unable to pay, I will be contacting to the person with the next highest bid. All work has a minimum bid of $5.00.

$5.00 will be added to the final bid for shipping costs.

  1. Just to let everyone who has bid so far know, just in case they didn’t see the update: The auction has been extended another week. This is mainly because it took the WSD a little bit longer to get a press release rolling, and the first week the auction was going on, they were in Spring Break, which was some bad planning on my part. Sorry for the inconvenience, and thanks for bidding on stuff!

  3. Thanks to everyone for bidding! The auction is closed and I will be contacting the highest bidders on each piece with follow up e-mails.
